PRACTICES
The Tutorial System aims to nurture independent thinking and promote research activities in the students. It exposes them to a wider intellectual scholarship and initiates them into the culture of reading. It also helps them develop the art of writing proficiently on various subjects on their own. It keeps students engaged in serious academic works throughout the course. A great deal of responsibilities and opportunities are given to students to learn and do things independently. They are required to do many things on their own such as reading, collecting materials or data, outlining the paper, writing the essay, presenting the paper and participating in discussions, thereby contributing to the training and development of their minds.
- ASSESSMENT AND EXAMINATIONS
Continuous assessment of students is done through tests, assignments and various other activities. Students’ selection for the End Term University Examinations is based on their performance in these activities. Hence, students will have to be serious and dedicated from the start, keeping in mind that their success will not be determined by a single examination.
- ATTENDANCE
Attendance is an integral part of effective education as education is made effective when it is disciplined. So, good attendance is strictly insisted upon. At least 80% attendance in the class is required in order to qualify for the End Term University Examinations. Attendance in every official programmes /activities of the college is compulsory.
- DISCIPLINE
Education is an adventure in the quest for excellence and the goal is attained through discipline and hard work. The College realizes the essentiality to guide and discipline students and to orient or initiate them to the desired values. For this, co-operation is sought from the students. They are expected to conduct themselves in a disciplined, dignified and responsible manner. Any act, which causes harm to themselves/others or interferes with the effective functioning of the College is considered as a breach of discipline, for which disciplinary actions are taken. Disciplinary action may take such forms as warning (verbal or written), fine, suspension and even expulsion from the hostel/college
THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME CONDUCTS ON THE CAMPUS WHICH ARE PROHIBITED
- Drinking/possessing alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
- Abusing/possessing drugs and taking other harmful products. No.1&2 will invite severe disciplinary action.
- Chewing tobacco related products such as gutkha, betelnut, paan, khaini,etc.
- Vandalising or damaging college property, this includes, tearing or damaging library books, journals and magazines.
- Ragging in all forms(implicit or explicit) is viewed very seriously because of its extremely disruptive and anti-social.
- Showing discourtesy and insubordination(disrespect) to faculty and staff, and using threat or violence against them.
- Using abusive language or inflicting harm on other students.
- Cheating, stealing and bribery is viewed as a serious offence.
- Involving in fights with others on or off the College campus.
- Absenting oneself from class without leave of absence, bunking class and non-cooperation in doing class activities, writing assignments, class tests, examinations, etc.
- Attending class is compulsory on the opening day of the College after every holiday and also on the closing day before every holiday. Fine is imposed on the absentee for both.
- Possessing and circulating pornographic materials in any form.
- Involving in any immoral conduct which can cause scandal in the local context like dressing immodestly/indecently/provocatively, vulgar display of affection through physical contact like caressing/petting, or any unchaste/immoral behavior in public.
GENERAL NORMS
- Students are ultimately responsible to the principal for any misconduct, or breach of rules framed by the College.
- Students are required to attend all classes.
- Students are also required to attend all the functions, talks by visitors/special invitees, seminars and conferences organized by the College.
- Students should obtain all their textbooks within the first month.
- Students who are from places other than Jotsoma and Kohima should have a local gaurdian.
- The only recognized student body in the college is the Sazolie College Students’. No other tribal union or society can be formed. Tribal meetings/fellowships are not allowed on campus without prior permission from the principal and leaveis not granted for such meetings.
- Students are required to pay their fees on time.
- Any student can be asked to leave College on grounds of poor academic performance, bad attendance,breach of discipline and non-payment of fees.
- Hostellers are required to pay their mess fee before the 15th of every month.
- UGC notification/directive on Refund of Fees will be followed if a student wants to withdraw his/her admission.
- If a student desires to leave the College before the completion of the semester/session, he/she must clear the fees/dues and return the books borrowed from the College Library.
- Any hosteller desiring to leave the hostel before the completion of the session/semester must give a one-month prior notice to the Principal/Administrator through the Warden. If a student fails to do so, he/she will forfeit the caution money.
